Nike has applied this week for new trademarks indicating its intent to sell branded virtual goods, including shoes and apparel, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Nike filed seven requests with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in late October to protect its marks in categories including “online, non-downloadable virtual footwear, clothing, headwear, eyewear, bags, sports bags, backpacks, sports equipment, art, toys, and accessories for use in virtual environments.”
The patents were filed for Nike, Just Do It, its swoosh logo, and its Air Jordan and Jumpman logos.
No further details were provided of what the company has planned for these trademarks, but the applications come with the release of NFTs and the Metaverse.
